Youth Ministry

The goal of St. John's Youth Ministry is to develop our knowledge and understanding of our Catholic faith and deepen our love for Christ while having fun with our friends.  St. John's Middle School Youth Group is for grades 6-8 and High School Youth Group is for grades 9-12.  Instead of regularly scheduled meetings, youth group consists of a variety of events from several annual Catholic college visits, pizza nights with the SSVM religious sisters and events with the seminarians, as well as Bible studies and other events.  By registering, you'll provide us with information needed to add you to email distribution lists for these events.  You can also see scheduled events below.

Meetings

Meetings are light and upbeat, starting with fun activities and ice breakers, followed by discussions on how to live our Catholic faith in this modern age.  We discuss hot topics and key life issues in a Catholic light so that we will be prepared to face the challenges of the world.

Events

In addition to our regular meetings, we engage in a variety of social events, including roller skating, pizza nights with the SSVM sisters, Quo Vadis retreats for young men, bowling and hosting a Catholic College and Vocations Fair.  This year we are chartering two buses to the Youth Rally and Mass for Life in DC in January and visiting some great Catholic colleges.  See the calendar below for times/dates/details.

Service

Part of our mission is to reflect Christ’s love by providing service to our parish and neighbors.  Among other things, we conduct a fall and spring food & goods drive for the SSVM sisters and then deliver the collection to their three DC area convents.  See the calendar for times/dates/details.

Summer Program

The mission of St. John’s Summer Program is twofold: first, to run a Catholic summer camp where children ages 4-14 can grow in their faith and love for Christ daily through the guidance of young Catholic instructors serving as role models; and second, to provide a Catholic community for high school and college instructors to help them grow in their faith and love for Christ through daily Mass, theology classes and Eucharistic Adoration.  We encourage children ages 4-14 to attend, 8-12th graders to volunteer, and rising high school seniors and college students to apply for jobs.  It's an amazing way to spend your summer!
