On Saturday afternoon, February 6, 2010, the weight of snow and ice from a major winter storm caused the roof of St. John's School to collapse. Specifically, the entire portion of the school, including the basement, built in 1953 was destroyed and has been condemned. The remaining part of the school, built in 1923, did not collapse. Structural engineers evaluated the condition of that part of the school. The white frame section was remodeled and the brick addition was rebuilt. Students found a temporary home at Holy Angels, in Avenue, MD. Our new school building was completed in December of 2010. Students resumed school in January of 2011!

On Sunday February 6, 2011, the one-year anniversary of this school collapse, His Eminence Donald Cardinal Wuerl came to see our opportunity that came from this adversity. He celebrated Mass with us and then blessed our newly built school.
