On Saturday afternoon, February 6, 2010, the weight of snow and ice from a major winter storm caused the roof of St. John's School to collapse. Specifically, the entire portion of the school, including the basement, built in 1953 was destroyed and has been condemned. The remaining part of the school, built in 1923, did not collapse. Structual engineers evaluated the condition of that part of the school.
St. John's Parish leadership coordinated the rebuilding of St. John's School with Archdiocese of Washington officials.
Out of adversity has come an opportunity. Despite the devastating loss of our original school, St. John's was renovated and rebuilt. Students resumed school in the new building in January 2011.
