On Saturday afternoon, February 6, 2010, the weight of snow and ice from a major winter storm caused the roof of St. John's School to collapse. Specifically, the entire portion of the school, including the basement, built in 1953 was destroyed and has been condemned. The remaining part of the school, built in 1923, did not collapse. Structual engineers are currently evaluating the condition of that part of the school.

St. John's Parish leadership is actively coordinating the rebuilding of St. John's School with Archdiocese of Washington officials.

While many of us are still in awe over the collapse of our school, we as a parish and school family are trying to get back in the groove. Our school children have found a new "temporary" home. The students are being transported by bus to Holy Angels in Avenue, MD.
