Primary Purpose

St. John’s Youth Ministry Program is designed to serve the youth of our parish and seeks to do so through the Elementary, Junior, and Senior Youth Groups.

Elem. Youth Group is open to all elementary school students, grades 2-5, and seeks to help our younger youth encounter Christ through different spiritual, social and liturgical activities.  Please check the calendar below for dates and locations of our Elementary Youth Group meetings.  Elem. Youth Group usually meets twice monthly on Saturday evenings, 6 - 8 pm in the Monsignor Harris Center (MHC).  Please check the calendar below to see which Saturdays we will be meeting.

Jr. Youth Group is open to all middle school students, grades 6-9, and seeks to help our youth encounter Christ through different spiritual, social and liturgical activities.  Please check the calendar below for dates and locations of our Jr. Youth Group meetings. Jr. Youth Group usually meets twice monthly on Saturday evenings, 6 - 8 pm in the Monsignor Harris Center (MHC).  Please check the calendar below to see which Saturdays we will be meeting.

Sr. Youth Group is open to all high school students, grades 9-12 and seeks to help our youth encounter Christ through regular meetings, prayer services, catechetical nights, liturgical opportunities and social events.  Sr. Youth Group usually meets twice monthly on Saturday evenings, 8 -10 pm in the Monsignor Harris Center (MHC).  Please check the calendar below to see which Saturdays we will be meeting.

(9th graders can choose which Youth Group to attend - Jr. or Sr.)

Goal

Our groups’ goal is to further develop our knowledge and understanding of our Catholic faith and deepen our love for Christ, while having fun with our friends. 

Meetings

Meetings are light and upbeat, starting with fun activities and ice breakers, followed by core discussions on how to live our Catholic faith in this modern age.  We discuss hot topics and key life issues in a Catholic light, so that our youth are prepared to face the challenges of the world.

Events

In addition to our regular meetings, we engage in a variety of social events, from ice skating, to competing in a softball league, to snow and water tubing, to bowling and camping.  This year we are chartering a bus to the Youth Rally and Mass for Life in DC, hosting a lock-in, and fundraising to defray the cost of a summer trip to King’s Dominion.  See the calendar below for times/dates/details.

Service

Part of our mission is to reflect Christ’s love by providing service to our parish and neighbors.  Among other things, we hold an annual raffle to raise money to purchase Christmas gifts for at least three needy families, and we will be hosting “Movies in the Park” throughout the summer, free of charge to our parish and community.  The movies will have Catholic themes and will be shown on a large screen, outside in the grass after sunset.   See the calendar for times/dates/details.
