Members of the Right-to-Life Ministry at St. John’s work to:
- Help people in the parish community understand that life begins at conception, and that every human being, no matter how young, old, infirm or developmentally challenged deserves respect and protection from harm.
- Support the efforts of St. Mary’s County Right-to-Life and Maryland Right-to-Life to educate lawmakers and citizens that every abortion takes a human life by:
(a) Supporting the installation of the “Memorial to the Innocents” (the
Crosses), at various churches.
(b) Encouraging participation in the National March for Life, in DC
every January 22nd, and the Candlelight Walk for Life, every
Winter in Annapolis, and the annual October “Life Chain” along
the sidewalk facing the highway in front of Immaculate
Heart of Mary (IHM) church.
(c) Encouraging participation by local defenders of life in the pro-life
activities at the annual St. Mary’s County Fair, such
as serving at the St. Mary’s County Right to Life Booth and marching in
the Saturday parade under the St. Mary’s County Right to Life
banner.
(d) Encouraging participation in other public events sponsored by
St.Mary's County Right to Life (SMCRTL) such as talks by pro-life leaders
and obtaining and
distributing pro-life leaflets, books, and apparel.
(e) Encouraging Catholics to use Natural
Family Planning (NFP) instead of contraception as critical to the pro-life
movement. (Contraception is intrinsically evil and part of the culture of death,
and NFP does not stunt/kill spiritual growth, yet leads to deeper conversion and
openness to life as well as promoting a culture of life.)
- Keep parishioners informed on Pro-Life issues by encouraging
enrollment in the Maryland Catholic Conference’s Legislative Action
Network and by assisting with letter-writing campaigns as they become
necessary.
- Support the efforts of the CareNet Pregnancy Center by participating in
their annual dinner fundraiser.
