For Better & For Ever Sponsor Couple Program
The marriage preparation program was established at St. John's to assist the Pastor in preparing couples for the Sacrament of Matrimony.
Couples work with the staff at St. John's which includes initial preparation through the coordinator, meetings with the Pastor, and
completing a marriage preparation option accepted by the Archdiocese of Washington. Discussion with the Pastor assists the couple in
selecting the option that best suits their needs. The options that are available are Engaged Encounter Retreats, Family Life Office
Preparation through the Archdiocese, and the Sponsor Couple/Mentor Program at St John’s is based on the For Better & For Ever Program.

The Sponsor Couple/ Mentor Program was developed from the For Better & For Ever Marriage Preparation Program. Potential sponsor couples are selected by the
Pastor and go through an initial training to determine their interest and suitability for becoming a sponsor couple. Sponsor couples work with
engaged couples referred to our program by the Pastor. Meetings with the engaged couple are based on the schedules and availability of both
the sponsor couple and the engaged couple. These meetings are held in the sponsor couple's home with meetings taking place once a week for
5-6 weeks depending on the needs of the engaged couple. Each session is 2- 2 1/2 hours in length. The sessions are confidential and structured
to meet the individual needs of the engaged couple.
Sponsor Couple Program: If you are interested in
becoming a Sponsor/ Mentor Couple, please contact the coordinators. Sponsor/Mentor
Couples meet once or twice a year. Training sessions are provided as needed for potential sponsor couples.
Engaged couples using the Sponsor/Mentor Couple Program meet with their sponsors once a week for 5-6 weeks in 2- 2 1/2 hour sessions.
